Inspiration
The structure of flowers that bloom in different seasons; the shapes and colors of the leaves and seeds the trees grow in their own phases; the birds who takes advantage of the seeds; things that hatch and grow and spread their beauty in the water—these are the source of my inspiration. Nature, taking its own course, irrelevant from us. I feel truly wholesome among those lives. And I seek ways to express the amazement into drawings.

Exhibition
August 2024, I had an exhibition at Gallery Jijihyang in Asia Publication Culture & Information Center of Paju Book City, which lasted for a month.
It mainly presented the illustrations from the coloring book <Garden, Lady> which had been launched on April 2024. Other than the book’s contents, there were some of my personal works for coloring pages also.
And this wall, was my favorite spot of the whole exhibition. I asked my colorist fans to send me by email their own colored version of my drawing, and about 50 colored works were sent from all round the world. I printed them all on nice papers and put it on the center of the white wall. The result was amazing—all 50 of them put together in one spot, it seemed so colorful and overwhelming, reminding me of human minds seeking beauty in their own unique ways. I had a real good pleasure showing off how beautiful the colorists’ works are to the audience.
At the end of the exhibition, I collected all these little drawings and put them in a box with the ribbons that tied the flowers from wonderful people and the bottle of Lanvin perfume from my fiance; he let me choose the scent just for the exhibition and I used it all up right at the last day of it. Every time I open this box, it will bring back the memory of the moment I stood staring in front of the wall, watching all the colors sent from wonderful colorists from round the world. It’s the best souvenir.
Actually, I had a bit of hard time watching my own illustrations for the whole month. Because as an artist, I try not to look back or settle. Instead, I fill more comfortable when focusing on the room for improvement to get better. So I couldn’t help but obsessively looking for tiny spots that I would have done differently, which was pure pain.
On top of that, there was a big event—to talk about the book! At this book publishing event that held at the gallery, I got this chance to talk about my drawings and the way I work. As a super-introvert with picky taste, I’m not really used to talk about myself. I was so shy and nervous at the moment, but tried my best not to show it, but tell these wonderful people who gathered there my stories clearly. Luckily nothing bad happened, and there were more people than I imagined. And even some reporters mentioned about it after in their articles, thankfully.
I learned so, so, so much, and am eager to learn more.
The August 2024 taught me so much. It was very precious for me to meet the audience and talk about my art with them, and hear what they think. I usually work in a small room and sometimes I stay indoor for days, drawing alone. Even when I’m outside it’s usually that very park nearby, not involving any meaningful conversation with others. So this whole exhibition was such a priceless experience.
I don’t know when I will have a chance to do this kind of event in the future, but I am looking forward already :)
